Client Overview
MarketMeter is an Australian financial market research firm serving the boards, management teams, and investor relations functions of ASX-listed companies. Founded by former members of established financial institutions, the firm conducts performance analysis and benchmarking for corporates, brokers, and institutional investors.
Its core service involves collecting structured survey data from a large network of financial professionals and delivering insights on company performance. As the firm's respondent base and data requirements grew, its existing manual collection process was no longer able to support the scale or speed the business needed.
The Challenge
- Survey data was collected via Excel spreadsheets distributed by email to over 1,000 contacts, making the process slow and difficult to manage at scale.
- Response and completion rates were low because the survey format was lengthy and placed a high burden on time-constrained respondents.
- There was no centralised system for tracking submissions, resulting in data scattered across emails and individual files.
- Administrators had no real-time visibility into participant activity, partial completions, or overall response progress.
- Over 400 securities were linked to multiple sectors and indices, creating confusion for respondents during data entry.
- Respondents were tied to a single device, with no ability to start a survey on one device and continue on another.
Our Approach
1. Mapped the full survey lifecycle first
We began by mapping the full survey lifecycle — from how respondents received and completed surveys to how data was compiled and reviewed by administrators. This allowed us to identify where manual steps were creating friction, delays, and errors before proposing any solution.
2. Designed for senior, time-constrained respondents
Our focus was on designing a platform that could handle the complexity of financial data inputs while remaining straightforward for busy, senior respondents to use. We planned a modular architecture from the outset to support the phased delivery of web, mobile, and admin capabilities without requiring rework between phases.
3. Delivered in phases, validated each layer
We structured delivery across three phases, each focused on a distinct set of functional priorities, allowing us to validate each layer before building the next. This phased approach reduced risk, enabled early feedback from real users, and ensured the platform was stable and adopted before expanding in scope.
What We Built
Platform / System Design
- A full-stack web platform built to support structured, multi-step survey collection for financial market research
- A mobile application for iOS and Android, synchronised with the web platform so users could switch devices without losing progress
- A unified data architecture ensuring survey responses from both web and mobile were consolidated in a single system in real time
- A modular platform structure designed to support additional phases and capabilities without re-architecting the core system
Key Features Delivered
- A seven-step digital survey form with auto-save functionality, allowing respondents to complete surveys progressively
- Simplified stock and index selection, with over 400 securities reformatted into clear, navigable categories for respondents
- Role-based access allowing administrators and respondents to interact with the platform according to their specific needs
- A centralised admin view providing live tracking of user activity, submission status, and partial completions
Governance / Scalability / Security
- Phased delivery model with iterative releases, enabling user feedback to inform each subsequent phase
- Centralised data management removing reliance on manual collation and reducing the risk of inconsistent or incomplete records
- A scalable architecture designed to accommodate growth in respondent numbers, survey complexity, and analytical output over time
Impact Delivered
The platform replaced a fragmented, manual process with a centralised digital system that gave both respondents and administrators a more reliable way to collect and monitor financial survey data. MarketMeter was able to onboard participants quickly and begin gathering structured, consistent data at a scale that was not previously achievable. The phased delivery ensured the business could begin operating on the new platform without waiting for all capabilities to be complete.
Business Impact
- Survey completion rates improved significantly as the shift to a structured digital format reduced the effort required from respondents
- Data collection turnaround time was reduced by removing manual distribution, follow-up, and consolidation steps
- Administrators gained real-time visibility into survey progress, eliminating the need for manual tracking across emails and files
- Data accuracy improved through automated capture and validation, reducing reliance on manual entry and post-collection correction
- The platform established a scalable foundation for expanding survey scope, respondent reach, and analytical capability across future phases
