Client Overview

InterDent Inc. is one of the largest dental services organisations on the US West Coast — operating 250+ clinics with 1,000+ dentists and millions of active patients. Their practice management system handles clinical operations and nothing else.

Classic Informatics was first engaged around 2004 to build the analytics layer the PMS couldn't provide. Over 20 years, that engagement grew into Classic Informatics becoming InterDent's complete digital operating partner — data engineering, BI, and 40+ custom applications.

The Challenge

  • Practice management system provided no reporting, analytics, or business intelligence capability
  • Critical operations — collections, payroll, compliance, fee management — had no supporting systems
  • Management had no visibility into production, collections, or performance across clinics
  • Data was locked across 20+ source databases with no way to aggregate or act on it
  • As the group scaled from 80 to 250+ clinics, gaps in tooling became operationally unsustainable

Our Approach

1. Started with the data, built outward

We spent four to five months mapping every table across 20+ source databases before building the first report. That domain depth — understanding dental billing, insurance workflows, and provider compensation at the column level — became the foundation for everything that followed.

2. One framework, not separate tools

Rather than delivering isolated applications, we designed a unified Employee Portal hosting 40+ modules under one access control layer — so every workflow, every user, and every audit trail operated from a single governed environment.

3. Rebuilt without disruption, every time

The data warehouse was rebuilt three times as technology evolved — from on-premises SQL Server to a columnar SSAS cube to a cloud platform. Each migration was completed without data loss or reporting downtime across a 250-clinic operation.

4. Stayed close enough to grow with them

InterDent scaled, adopted new systems, and changed platforms across two decades. We adapted every time — new applications, new integrations, new architectures — without InterDent needing a second technology partner.

What We Built

Data Engineering & Warehousing

  • Three-generation data warehouse: on-premises ODW, columnar EDW, and cloud platform
  • Bronze to Gold ETL architecture across 80–100 pipelines nightly consolidating 30+ source databases
  • Incremental daily pipelines on cloud platform positioned for AI/ML workloads
  • Self-service CSV data extracts for finance, payroll, and operations teams

Business Intelligence & Analytics

  • Daily Hurdle Report — one-screen operational view used in every morning leadership call
  • Corporate, regional, and office Power BI dashboards with Row Level Security
  • Provider Stack and Rank — 1,000+ doctors ranked by production and performance
  • OHP State Billing Reports submitted monthly to Oregon state government
  • HR analytics, operational scorecards, and financial aging reports across all 250 clinics

Custom Application Portfolio

  • Central Business Office — claim tracking, aging queue, and payment follow-up for 24/7 Hyderabad team
  • Doctor Payroll — automated compensation calculations across 10–20 parameters per provider
  • Grievance Management and Incident Reporting — full compliance workflow from submission to closure
  • Fee Schedule Application — centralised management of thousands of insurance-specific fee structures
  • Location Management, Call Centre, OHP Eligibility, Discount Plans, and Document Repository

Impact Delivered

InterDent's entire digital operating layer — analytics, reporting, collections, compliance, payroll, scheduling, fee management, and government billing — is Classic Informatics-built work. The same partner that delivered the first report in 2004 is leading the active cloud migration today.

Business Impact

  • 40+ custom applications covering every workflow the PMS was never designed to handle
  • Three data warehouse generations delivered with zero data loss or reporting downtime
  • 80% of all revenue collection activity driven by Classic Informatics-built tools
  • 20-year engagement with zero replacements across four phases of growth
  • Entire digital operating layer currently migrating to cloud — led by Classic Informatics
